Do you think The State Government can continue the Fee Reimbursement Policy?
The AndhraPradesh State government was decided to reimburse the fee for economically backward classes (EBC) students in all the degree, PG and professional courses from this year, thus bringing in 80 per cent of the students under the reimbursement scheme.
The decision had taken at a review meeting held by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ond passed aEBC Scholarships info 2008 - H E DEPT. G.O in 2008 However, it will be applicable to students whose parents’ income is below Rs. One lakh per annum. The decision will put an additional Rs. 175 crore burden on the exchequer.
After that many students and families felt very happy so that they can choose in their dream career that they were unable to afford earlier.Many students in the state joined in the corporate education by thinking they would be helped with this policy, and it went smooth for 2 Semesters. After this the ream problem started, in order to decrease the burden on the government caused due to the response came for the Reimbursement policy it has included some new rules and regulations to the original policy.
Now the government is saying that it would pay 50 per cent of the fund arrears within the coming week and the rest would be taken as loan from banks on government's counter guarantee. The government would pay the banks directly. This led to tension between college managements and state government on the fee reimbursement issue eased a bit on Sunday with a majority of the colleges agreeing to take loans to fund the education of students. College managements have communicated to the government that they would take bank loans (on the government's counter guarantee) and pay the interest for the same. They, however, demanded that the government release the entire dues by mid-April.
Leaders and activists of some Active party in state on Tuesday staged a dharna to protest against the state government's failure in releasing fee reimbursement arrears to those students who were pursuing their studies in private engineering colleges in the state.
The Supreme Court on Monday rapped the AP government for not honouring its commitment to reimburse the fees of students from poor and socially weaker sections, and gave it a week to come back with a positive response.
After all these incidents some thoughts will come into every one that
